Instrumental Music

The opportunities in the Instrumental Music Department include large and small groups, audition experiences, spring tours and performances in the school’s auditorium and in the community.

Students are invited to audition for the Heights High Symphony, Symphonic Winds Band, or Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble.

The non-audition groups (courses) include Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band – these groups are open to all students.

All students who are enrolled in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Symphonic Winds are required to participate in Marching Band, including band camp the week before school begins.

Percussionists participate in band camp and drum camp the week before regular band camp.

Other music courses include: Guitar, African American Music, Jazz, AP and Basic Music Theory.

Students also perform in ensemble groups, these smaller groups are coached by a trained music teacher and perform at school concerts and events in the community.
