Principal Shelley Pulling
August 2017

Welcome to Roxboro Elementary School and to the 2017-2018 school year. This will be my first year as principal of Roxboro Elementary School and I am looking forward to getting to know all of the Roxboro students and families and forming a strong bond while working towards having all students feel success every day. I have 24 years of experience in education with 18 years in administration. I believe all students can learn and enjoy collaborating with all stakeholders in creating a positive educational environment. I am honored to continue my educational career at Roxboro Elementary.

Over the last few weeks, I have seen the commitment to success from the Roxboro Elementary staff through their efforts at creating a common discipline plan, working together in teacher collaborative teams on their IB unit planners and reaching out to students in many different ways. There is a positive energy around working together towards success and every teacher, staff member, student, parent or community member has demonstrated pride in Roxboro Elementary and expressed high expectations. I am committed to working hard to promote a culture where teachers, staff, parents and students work together and everyone shares the same common goal of student success.

Our theme is "One Team with Respect for All," which will help provide the backdrop for our work this year. Our pep rallies will focus on the IB attitudes and attributes that help our students become productive citizens. We have several activities planned for this year. Some of the highlights include a new playground, a refurbished exterior and our One School, One Book Masterpiece. It is impressive to see how supportive the Roxboro parents are in the many different events that are planned.

Be sure to look at the Roxboro Elementary Calendar for upcoming events:

There are many activities to get involved in, so please take a look and join us!

If there is anything I can do to help you please call the school (216) 371-7115 or email me at s_pulling@chuh.org. I am proud to serve the students and families at Roxboro Elementary School and I want to do whatever it takes to help our students do their best.

Sincerely,

Shelley Pulling

Principal

June 2017

Roxboro Families,

We are quickly approaching the end of an eventful school year. The welcomed warm weather and sunshine has students eagerly awaiting many year-end field trips and our most anticipated Field Day. Fifth graders have only a few days left before embarking on middle school. We wish them well in their transition and much success in the future.

Many activities have culminated and proven to be quite successful during these last few weeks of school. For the third year in a row, Roxboro took first place in the regional Jump Rope for Heart campaign. Students’ fundraising efforts were applauded with a staff pie-in-the-face pep rally while showcasing the jump roping skills of our balanced participants. Families came out to support as students were open-minded risk takers and put their many talents on display at our Talent Show. Many thinkers and communicators’ creative writing abilities were displayed during our Children’s Ink assembly. Parents showed their support at our RoxArts benefit auction. Our annual Rox Runs event was very successful. The 4th and 5th grade students demonstrated their musical gifts at the orchestra concert.

I am truly appreciative of all the hard work, dedication, and support the students, staff, PTA and families have demonstrated throughout the school year. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Continue to read throughout the summer, taking advantage of the Heights Library’s Summer Reading Program. Summer reading lists, as well as supply lists for next year, will be available on this website.

Be safe and enjoy your summer break!

March 2017

Greetings Roxboro Community!

The early Spring at Roxboro Elementary is filled with activity and anticipation of an exciting last three months of school! The Phase 2 of the playground design is being finalized and appears to be on track for construction by the start of next school year. Our fifth graders are getting ready for Exhibition and Ohio State Testing (OST) will be administered throughout the month of April. Lastly, our Jump Rope for Heart campaign is doing very well and we predict another top performing year! As you can see , there are many happenings throughout the Roxboro community. Please take time to read to your child every night and reach out to us if you have any questions or need support.

Best,

Dr. Jenkins

December 2016
Greetings Roxboro Families,

I hope you are enjoying the holiday season! As the looming cold weather sits on our doorstep, please be sure your kiddo(s) are bundled up. Along with the colder temperatures, comes the season for illness. We are doing all that we can in terms of hand-washing and cleaning. Please help by encouraging your child to wash their hands when he or she has an opportunity in school. We will do the same.

On another note, the playground repairs should be completed upon our return from the winter break. The swings and the climbing structure will be repaired, however the spinning structure has been removed. Phase 2 of the playground is currently being designed and is slated for construction this summer. As we move closer to the final designs of Phase 2, we will be looking to share them with the community.

Lastly, please take a moment to watch a couple of videos and articles we recently added to our website! They are fantastic!
Best,

Dr. Jenkins

November 2016

Greetings Everyone,

Fall is upon us, and we have many things to be grateful for as Clevelanders! We have an abundance of wonderful things happening around the school. Third grade is making observations of how seeds grow using specially designed planters in the Media Center. Our RoxArts programming is moving forward for the year, including but not limited to drama and visual experiences for our students. Cleveland Heights Mayor Cheryl Stephens came to our school and read to kindergarten and first grade students. These are just some examples of the happenings throughout the building.

Additionally, I am very proud to see examples of some of the writing that our students are producing! It is simply amazing and a testimony of the hard work within the classrooms.

As you may be aware, we have had some unfortunate setbacks in terms of our playground this year. I assure you that myself, administration, and the parent community are working hard to move forward with repairs and the design of the rest of the playground. I plan on keeping everyone posted!

Educationally yours,

Mike Jenkins
Roxboro Elementary Principal

September/October 2016

Greetings to the Roxboro Elementary community! This has been a wonderful start to the school year. Teachers and students have been settling into their routines and have been busy being thinkers, risk-takers, and taking action. Starting a new school year requires a lot when trying to build new relationships and being the best thinker you can be!

There is no way for me to overstate how proud I am of everyone for such a strong start to the year. Accomplishing things such as the opening of the playground, PTA Fall fundraiser, and working with newly adopted programs is no easy task with the multitude of things we do each day.

I am looking forward to the continued enthusiasm for learning and children here at Rox El. This certainly applies to all of the community support we receive. It is a critical component to our success! Please take advantage of the numerous opportunities we have to stay involved with your child’s education. Take time to reach out to your child’s teacher if you haven’t done so already. It is this partnership that builds success. What we value around your child, is what he or she will value.

Take care and let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely best,

Michael Jenkins
