Chartwells School Dining at CH-UH City Schools

Students in the Cleveland Heights – University Heights City School District will begin to see a wider array of healthy food choices in the cafeteria during the 2007-2008 school year. A new school lunch program is placing a greater emphasis on freshness, variety, and serving nutritious meals that are appealing to students. The District has partnered with Chartwells School Dining Services to serve over one million breakfasts and lunches annually to District students.

This exciting change to the food services program moves the District forward in its wellness plan, furthering the commitment to enhance the lives of students, not only academically, but physically as well. A nutritious diet plays a key role in the health and well-being of students and the furthering of their achievements.

Chartwells’ comprehensive approach to wellness will be implemented throughout the District which includes food nutrition standards, nutrition education, and physical activity goals that promote a healthy school environment. At the elementary level, nutrition and physical activity mascots will be introduced to focus on the importance of a balanced diet and exercise. The secondary level is taking an approach to good nutrition by featuring menu items such as freshly prepared salads and sandwiches.

A soft opening of the enhanced Food Services Program will begin with the start of school. As the menu is expanded, a grand opening is scheduled for the beginning of October 2007.

The District is committed to providing your child with quality meals that will be nutritionally complete, appealing, satisfying, and modest in cost. Please contact our Director of Dining Services, Allison Hager at 216-320-2016 or A_Hager@chuh.org with any questions or comments you might have about our program.
