The four Elite winners are, left to right: juniors Taylor Williams and Rachael Evans, sophomore Kyra Green, and senior Nadiyah Harper (Captain).

Four Heights High Varsity Cheerleaders were selected for the Elite All American Cheer Squad after the school’s elite cheerleading camp in July. The camp directors select cheerleaders from each state based on skill, technique, and spirit. Participants from nine Ohio schools were eligible.

“This award shows how hard the girls are working on their stunts, jumps, and other skills,” Coach Nellie Basit said. Since Coach Nellie stepped in as the lead coach, the team has developed into a college style squad, learning more stunts and tumbling. “The stunts we do at games are modified—we save the more dramatic stunts for our competition,” Coach Nellie added.

Cheerleading parent Terri Woodruff-Evans has appreciated the coach’s vision and energy. “She is taking this squad to a whole new level,” she said.

The squad is looking forward to football and basketball season and a February competition.

The JV and Varsity team includes 19 girls.
