Balloon Launch Sends Safety Message

At 10 a.m. on May 12, Mrs. Schmidt’s third grade students at Fairfax Elementary School let go of brightly colored balloons with an important message. The children participated in University Hospitals’ Click It or Ticket Balloon Release, reminding everyone to “Buckle Up for a Kid That Loves You.”

The class was given a poster with a seatbelt slogan on it, and the children decorated it to best illustrate the message. A smaller version of the poster was then attached to biodegradable balloons, along with a note asking anyone who finds the balloon to email their teacher and let them know where their message landed. “Most important, please remember to buckle up yourself and tell everyone you know to do the same!”

A very excited group of third graders received a response from Ani Loncaric in Kirtland, who wrote, “Around 11:30 a.m., we found your message in our front yard! We are excited to find your important message and even more excited to learn that you are spreading a very important message to people everywhere. Keep up the good work and continue spreading your message!”
