CH-UH Master Facilities Planning Update
January 20, 2012
Cleveland Heights, OH

On January 11 the planning team met with the community to discuss the District’s educational vision and how this vision informs grade configuration, buildings, and learning campuses. The participants at the meeting explored opportunities for a Community Education Network that will allow the schools to become centers of lifelong learning. The group was introduced to the organization of classrooms and support spaces into learning communities and was provided the opportunity to explore the benefits and challenges surrounding this arrangement. Information on Learning Communities can be found on the master plan blog http://chuhfacilitiesmasterplan.wordpress.com/ .
Finally, the ideas generated in these exercises were used to discuss grade and campus configurations—what types of configurations support Community Education and what types do not. Key ideas captured at the meeting and challenges presented to the planning team include: “How do we future proof the planning so that ideas implemented today continue to serve the community for future generations,” and “What features can be added to the plan to maintain Cleveland Heights and University Heights as the premiere places to live and raise a family.”
This information will be used by the planning team over the next few weeks to inform our planning and design decisions which will be presented at the next meeting on February 22, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Social Room. At this time, the planning team will present conceptual design ideas for the district, including analysis of the educational environments, construction budgets, operational budgets, and potential construction timelines. The participants at the meeting will be engaged in a series of activities where they can discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by each of the plans.
