Gearity Teacher Receives Award
February 6, 2012
Cleveland Heights, OH

Gearity Professional Development School physical education teacher Fiona Connor-Kuntz was awarded $2,500 by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) for the Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for Heart Grant.
Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for Heart is a program where students learn the value of community service and become empowered to contribute to their community’s welfare. Students join together in helping other kids with special hearts. They learn how to develop heart-healthy habits while being physically active, participating in activities such as jumping rope and basketball—skills they can use for the rest of their lives.
Connor-Kuntz will be presented the grant and honored for all her hard work at the AAHPERD awards ceremony this March in Boston. A portion of the grant will be set aside for professional development, and the remaining amount will be allocated to purchase new equipment for the physical education program at Gearity. Connor-Kuntz and Gearity Elementary School will have another Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for Heart program February 6-17.
