Canterbury Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
August 29, 2012
Cleveland Heights, OH
Canterbury Elementary School staff and PTA, in collaboration with Family Connections, recently became the recipient of “Tools for Education,” a grant awarded by Lowe’s Home Improvement Corporation. The grant will support the purchase of furniture and materials to create an expansion and enhancement of the current parent resource center located in Canterbury Elementary School. In addition to enhancing the current space, the grant will allow for the purchase of shelving, furniture, new parent lending resources (books, videos, games), and a wall mural.
Charone Edwards, a Family Connections liaison, said, “The parent resource center has been a comfortable place for parents to gather and get information and resources, but thanks to the Lowe’s grant, the center will now be more comfortable and inviting.”
Canterbury Elementary School will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 6 at 7:15 p.m. during the school ice cream social. Stacy Stuhldreher, Canterbury principal, and Charone Edwards, a representative from Family Connections, will cut the ribbon. The school will hold tours from 7:15-8:00 p.m. The room will be a place where parents can meet and offer each other support. They will also be able to take out materials on loan to reinforce classroom instruction.
Family Connections, a nonprofit organization with facilities in both Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights, has taken an active role of strengthening connections among families, schools, and community resources for around 30 years. For more information about Family Connections, call 216-321-0079.
