eSchool News Names Delisle One of the Nation’s Tech-Savvy
Superintendents for 2008

January 10, 2008
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS , OH
– Cleveland Heights – University Heights City School District Superintendent Deborah S. Delisle has been recognized as a Tech-Savvy Superintendent of the Year by eSchool News. Now entering its eighth year, this prestigious awards program honors 10 district superintendents from around the nation for their exemplary leadership and vision in using technology to improve education.

“Providing equal access to technology for students will ultimately level the playing field for success,” Delisle said. “Every student will require a sound grasp of technology components in their future careers. It is imperative that this exposure is consistent and is immersed in their daily school environment, which is what we strive for in Cleveland Heights – University Heights.”

After years of planning, the District is beginning a technology initiative this year that provides laptops for students in grades 6 – 12 over a five-year implementation. Also this year, several classroom teachers began using a SmartBoard, an electronic touch-screen chalkboard operating through a Windows-based computer. Cleveland Heights High School students now have the opportunity to produce digital video productions in the school’s TV Studio and Production lab for a TV production class and an extracurricular media club.

The CH-UH City School District stresses collaborative teaching techniques in Professional Learning Communities so teachers can analyze the needs of students, discuss ideas, critique each other’s work, share best practices, and use technology to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects.

Superintendent Delisle will be recognized by eSchool News during the American Association of School Administrators Conference in February. eSchool News will recognize Delisle and her fellow honorees with a commemorative plaque and a feature highlighting their achievements in the February print edition of eSchool News.

eSchool News launched its annual Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards program in 2001 to honor school district CEOs who have demonstrated a remarkable vision for implementing technology to meet their district’s educational goals, and to encourage other school leaders to follow suit.
