CLEVELAND HEIGHTS , OH – Cleveland Heights High School Senior Elizabeth Root is among a select group of students nationwide to receive the prestigious Horatio Alger National Scholarship. Root is only one of three recipients in Ohio, and one of 107 in the nation, to receive the $20,000 award based on an essay she submitted. Each year the distinguished Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program awards a select group of high school seniors with this coveted scholarship.
“Elizabeth is very deserving of this extraordinary honor,” Renaissance School Principal James Reed said. “She is an outstanding student and committed to the school community. She is involved in a variety of school activities and represents the highest caliber of Heights High students. It is very encouraging for us at Heights High to see her hard work being acknowledged and rewarded by such a distinguished organization.”
Elizabeth is described as an extremely dedicated and goal-oriented student and contributes in many ways to the Heights High community. She is a member of the National Honor Society, varsity lacrosse team, President of the Heights High Key Club, takes Advanced Placement classes, and works part time at the Stone Oven and assists with child care at Beth-El Heights Synagogue.
