CLEVELAND HEIGHTS , OH – Heights middle school students received statewide honors for their work as attorneys and witnesses during a competitive courtroom simulation. Thirty-six students in the Middle School Scholars Program from all three middle schools competed in the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education’s Middle School Mock Trial Competition in Columbus on Friday, April 18.
Awards went to the following students:
Outstanding Attorney Awards
Jasmine Price, 8th grade, Monticello Middle School
Emma Phillips, 8th grade, Roxboro Middle School
Natasha Madorsky, 7th grade, Roxboro Middle School
Outstanding Witness Awards
David Steele, 6th grade, Monticello Middle School
Da’Rya McAllister, 6th grade, Roxboro Middle School
The 90-minute mock trial simulates an actual courtroom with students playing the roles as attorneys, witnesses, and bailiff/timekeeper. The simulation includes a pretrial conference, swearing in witnesses, opening statements, testimony of witnesses with direct and cross examinations, and closing arguments.
