CLEVELAND HEIGHTS , OH –Thirty Heights High seniors went to Judson Retirement Community just hours before the Heights High prom to share their prom experience with senior citizens.
The couples (and triples) were announced by name as they promenaded through four dining rooms. Students then strolled among the tables and chatted informally with residents. Many residents told of their prom memories or talked about the Heights High of their youth.
“It was great to be there and see how much our visit was appreciated,” Senior Daniela Morales said. “It made us feel good to be able to share our big moment.”
Senior Jordan Zirm, clad in a white tuxedo, talked to a resident who had played football at Heights. “He wanted to know about our football team, and I told him about our new coach,” Jordan said.
Judson Resident Phyllis Martien also attended Heights High. “I was so proud to see Heights students here,” she said. “They were so purposeful and mature, very at ease socializing.”
Every Judson resident thought the students were “just beautiful!”
The evening was coordinated by Judson Eden Alternative director Lin Bartel, retired teacher Karen Gotwald, and Joy Henderson, Parent/Community Liaison at Height High. “The Prom Night is a great treat for our residents,” Ms. Bartel said. “It brings back memories and renews their faith in young people.”
This is the seventh year that Heights students have visited Judson before prom, and the residents look forward to another visit next year. |
