CLEVELAND HEIGHTS , OH – Wiley Middle School Math and Social Studies Teacher Heather Penny is featured in the June 13 issue of Education Week. The story in the national publication chronicles teachers’ experiences in their first five years in the profession and whether or not they have remained with the District in which they began their career. Penny found what she was looking for after moving to teach at Wiley.

Excerpt from Education Week, June 13, 2007 issue:

After considerable study, leaders at Wiley Middle had adopted both a more flexible schedule and the practice of advisories, a special class, meeting daily in Wiley’s case, where the teacher stays with the students as a counselor and advocate throughout their three years. The innovations helped attract Ms. Penny and more than a half-dozen other young teachers to the school. “We made a dramatic shift in the climate of the building,” she said.
