Safety Assembly at Roxboro Elementary

Safety Assembly at Roxboro Elementary

On Thursday, October 9th, all 4th and 5th grade students gathered in the Auditorium for an assembly centered around safely walking or riding your bike to school. Three members of the Cleveland Heights Police led lessons about cross streets safely on their way to and from school.  Part of helping our children to become safe pedestrians, was a swearing in ceremony for our 2014-15 Safety-Patrol Members.

Here is the Oath they took:
"I promise to do my best to....
   - Report for duty on time
   - Perform my duties faithfully
   - Strive to prevent traffic crashes, always setting a good example myself
   - Obey my teachers and officers of the patrol
   - Report dangerous student practices
   - Strive to earn the respect of fellow students."

School Safety Patrol memberships an honored position.  Millions of boys and girls have served since the program started around 1920.  Since then, the casualty record among children aged 5 to 14 has improved significantly.  Patrols have played an important role in this achievement.

The Safety Patrol follows an award/demerit system to ensure students maintain the high standards of the program.  Roxboro's Safety Patrol leader is Physical Education Teacher, Vince Nemeth.  A student receiving several demerits - for failing schoolwork, classroom discipline, being late for duty assignments, etc. - may be temporarily suspended from the Patrol.  If disciplinary action is necessary, parental cooperation will be appreciated.

With parental endorsement, our Safety Patrol will shoulder responsibilities that will strengthen character and provide an opportunity to help fellow students develop safe practices to and from school.
