Heights High Students Serve the Community

Nov. 29, 2016 -- On November 19, Heights High students prepared and served breakfast at a Men’s Shelter and raked leaves for Cleveland Heights senior citizens.

The Boys Basketball Team prepared and served breakfast to 250 men at the Lakeside Avenue Men’s Shelter. Head Coach Jeremy Holms was impressed with the team’s performance. “They worked very hard and represented our school and community is a great way!”

Assistant Coach Andre Scott felt that the project helped the team understand more about life. “It was a very humbling experience for these young men, it helped us all understand how blessed we are,” he said. “I appreciated how the team members greeted each of the men in line and made them feel comfortable.”

After the team served breakfast and cleaned up, they toured the shelter to understand how the facility operates.

On the same day, the Swim Team and Heights High members of the community student group The Cleveland Heights Youth Committee raked leaves for senior citizens. The Cleveland Heights Office on Aging provided the addresses of senior citizens who requested the service.

Swim Team Captain David Fleischer organized the volunteer project. “The day was cold and rainy, but we had fun,” he said. “It felt good to help the senior citizens.”
