RoxMid’s Fiona Macke Selected for Fellowship Program with Clinton Campaign

Fiona Macke

Aug. 25, 2016 – Roxboro Middle School eighth grader Fiona Macke cannot vote for another five years but she is wasting no time getting involved in politics nonetheless.

Fiona was recently selected to participate in the fellowship program with the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign—a program most often associated with college students.

“Most fellows are college students, but since there are no actual age requirements, the Cleveland Heights Organizer took Fiona in and she's been loving it!” said Fiona’s mother Samantha Macke.

Fiona has committed to working three shifts a week until Election Day. She even had the opportunity to work at the Clinton rally on August 17 in Cleveland.

Fellows, who work on a volunteer basis, are trained on the basics of organizing and campaign fundamentals and then placed in a community to carry out grassroots activities. The eight-week program is designed to test, train and develop a new class of organizers.

Fiona has learned the different volunteer roles and how to recruit and train people for those roles. She's also learning all of the reasons behind different organizing strategies and approaches. Fiona is able to take on real leadership opportunities and will have her own community team to manage as Election Day nears.

Fiona is actively involved at RoxMid with the Model United Nations, Science Olympiad, MSSP and Art Club. Last spring, Fiona was a part of the Roxboro contingent at the Junior Ohio Model United Nations in Columbus. She received the Outstanding Delegate Award for exemplary performance throughout the entire simulation and the Leadership Award for delegates who demonstrated initiative throughout the preparation and development for their country’s participation in the simulation.
