Football Ends on High Note

Football Ends on High Note

On October 30, the Tigers hosted their last home game of the season that included Senior Night for cheerleaders, the football team and marching band members. The football team made sure everyone left happy, winning handily 42-6 over the Shaw Cardinals.

The evening began with the tradition of honoring the seniors for their dedication over the course of their high school careers. Seven cheerleaders, 18 football players and 28 marching band members walked across the field with their family for the last time in an emotional ceremony just before kickoff.

But when the whistle blew, it was time for business and Coach Jeff Rotsky's team meant business. The Tigers struck on their first drive and never looked back, leading after the first quarter 14-0.

The second quarter proved to be the same story with the Tigers scoring 14 more points and only giving up six, which would end up being Shaw's only points of the game.

After a spirited halftime performance by the marching band, the Tigers were set for  kickoff. Junior LeAndrew Woody caught the kick and weaved his way down field for a 79 yard touchdown. That proved to be the spark that the Tigers needed to keep the energy from the first half solid in the second half.

Midway through the third quarter, the Tigers took advantage of the new Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) running clock rule when they drove the score up by more than 30 points for a score of 42-6.

With the game in hand, Rotsky was able to give his starters a rest and play some of those who don't normally get to see much varsity action.

Senior quarterback Taylor Jones finished with 149 yards passing with two passing touchdowns and a 15 yard blocked punt returned for touchdown. Senior running back Marquis Watkins finished with 62 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

It was a chilly fall night at the corner of Cedar and Lee but the hearts of Tiger Nation were warm with pride after a perfect ending to the 2014 football season.
