Art Club Creates Mural for the Library

The Heights High Art Club and their two advisers, Heights High art teachers Laura Skehan and Claire Raack, designed and painted a three dimensional mural for the Lee Road library.

The foreground of the mural includes images of Cleveland Heights neighborhoods, the Lee Road Library and the renovated high school.

Images in the other layers include Lake Erie, Cleveland’s skyline and the words Home of The Arts.

“The design and creation of the mural was a wonderful experience for our students and for Claire and me,” said Ms. Skehan. “Both the mural imagery and the creation process reinforce a strong bond between the library, Heights High and the arts.”

The mural was initiated last fall by The Friends of Heights Library group who wanted a creative piece of artwork to brighten their book sale area on the second floor.

“We were thrilled to work with the library,” said Ms. Skehan. “The students are especially happy to have a piece of their work on display in a community hub space like the library.”

Local artist (and husband of Ms. Skehan) Andy Curlowe, was a vital part of the mural team. He built and installed the three dimensional portion of the mural and assisted the students with the painting process.
