Say it Loud!

Students in Patti Smith's Language Arts class at Monticello  practiced their speaking skills by preparing and giving short speeches. For Black History Month the students chose a famous African American to research and share. The students were to give speeches focusing on making eye contact with their audience, their tone of voice, and language. In preparation they were given tips on how to prepare for speaking and methods to help them combat nervousness. When they were done students expressed relief, but according to Jace, a sixth grader, "It was easier this year since they practiced in 5th grade." Students did a great job and they plan to continue practicing their speaking skills so that they can give dynamic presentations in the future.
