CH-UH Recognizes Tiger Team Members of the Month for May

Tiger Team Members of the Month - May 2018June 1, 2018 -- The theme across the CH-UH School District this year is “A Culture of Excellence”. In that spirit, each month CH-UH has been recognizing employees who go above and beyond to create a culture of excellence in our district.

For May, CH-UH is honoring 13 people as the “Tiger Team Members of the Month”. Each honoree was nominated by a colleague--and in some instances multiple colleagues--and the nominees were then voted upon by a committee comprised of staffers across the district.

Since beginning this recognition program in October, CH-UH has received 337 nominations from across the district, including 29 new nominations in May.

The honorees will be recognized at the CH-UH Board of Education regular meeting on Tuesday, June 5.

Tiger Team Members of the Month - May:

Joy HendersonHeights High School
Joy Henderson, Parent and Community Liaison
“Joy is such a hard-working person; she inspires me to give it my all! Equally as important, she is so positive. I leave our conversations feeling glad to be part of CH-UH. I'm lucky to have worked beside her. She is a true asset to the Heights High staff, families, and CH-UH community.”

Dr. Kristie CooperDelisle Options Center
Dr. Kristie Cooper, Guidance Counselor
“Dr. Cooper wears multiple hats at the Options Program. She counsels students, motivates students, prepares students, challenges students, and tests students. I am amazed at her organizational skills in relation to school-wide test prep. She keeps an accurate log of students’ progress and is always available when students and staff need her.”

Genevieve McDougalMonticello at Heights Middle School
Genevieve McDougal, Social Studies Teacher
“Gen is a great teacher! She makes connections with all her students in and out of the classroom. She often eats lunch with her kids and has them in after school to do one-on-one work. Even though this is her first year teaching social studies, she has picked it up like a true veteran. She is one of the most organized and dedicated teachers who makes lessons fun and interesting. She makes teaching relevant to our IB philosophy. I am proud to be a team member with her. She is a huge asset to the 6th grade Social Studies Department.”

Mark DoughertyRoxboro at Heights Middle School
Mark Dougherty, Spanish Teacher
“Mark is so professional and always on top of everything. He fights for what is right and goes to bat for all of us. I strive to be as organized with my work and my thoughts and my actions as he is, and he has high expectations for his students as well as his colleagues. Mark has been a true team member (and this year, team leader) for UA throughout the years. He has worked toward whole school collaboration with field trip forms, making student learning meaningful, and making changes for the good in the climate of HMS.”

Roxboro at Heights Middle School
Kuei-Fang Tai, Chinese Teacher
“She is a quiet and discreet woman, but her work speaks a lot of her. She spends countless hours preparing non-traditional materials for her students, looks out for resources to bring to her classes, organizes extracurricular activities for her students, and she's always helping students after school. The language department is sort of in a hidden spot, so many teachers can't see all the things she does, but if you look closer, she shines!”

Terry SullivanBoulevard Elementary
Terry Sullivan, Special Education Aide
“Ms. Sullivan is an outstanding colleague who cares for every student at Boulevard. She always takes the time to build relationships with the students. If a student needs something, Ms. Sullivan finds a way to make sure the child gets what they need. When given a task she not only does it, she makes it outstanding whether it is a lesson for a student or a task in the classroom. She brings her great sense of humor to every situation and everyone feels at ease and comfortable to do their best when she is around. Ms. Sullivan is an asset in our culture of excellence at Boulevard Elementary.”

Mandy MazzoneCanterbury Elementary
Mandy Mazzone, Language/Speech Pathologist
“Mandy is a very dedicated educator who willingly and expertly shares her knowledge with colleagues. She has amazing ideas for all students and implements them with much forethought and enthusiasm. She is a tireless advocate for her students and is passionate about meeting their needs in creative and rigorous ways. Her lessons are engaging and her students look forward to working with her. She always gives 100% of herself to whatever task may be placed in front of her. Mandy's caring and easy going nature make her a truly valuable and irreplaceable member of the Canterbury team.”

Tamar GrayFairfax Elementary
Tamar Gray, Music Teacher
“Tamar goes out of her way for the students and Fairfax community. Her teaching is dynamic and energetic and her attitude is always positive. This all becomes quite contagious in the building! She is a mentor and friend for her colleagues and social and emotional support for all our students, even outside the four walls of her classroom. She is the pulse of our building and it is appreciated by all.”

Lisa EvansGearity PD Elementary
Lisa Evans, Kindergarten Teacher
“Lisa has gone above and beyond to help our entire staff incorporate technology into our instruction. She has a large amount of enthusiasm that shows as she talks about the latest ‘find’ she just has to share with us. She has offered help clinics and after-school workshops so staff members can feel comfortable using the technology. She is always welcoming of questions or needs and never makes anyone feel inferior for not knowing something about the technology we have available in our buildings. She definitely inspires others to do their best by leading through example!"

Teresa Taylor-WareNoble Elementary
Teresa Taylor-Ware, Title I Lead
“Mrs. Ware serves as Noble's instructional coach, but she also wears many other hats. She is the student council advisor, hosts a book club for our scholars, coordinates a 5th grade cheer team, prepares the Noble baskets for the CHTU banquet, buys and distributes the snacks for state testing, organizes the student volunteers from Notre Dame University,  and if this is not enough she is also second in command when the principal is out of the building. Mrs. Ware is one of the hardest-working people in our school and she never seeks acknowledgment or praise.”

Amanda BarkerOxford Elementary
Amanda Barker, Early Childhood Teacher
“Amanda works hard to develop strong relationships with both her children and the families she works with. She is often seen speaking with parents about their child's individual strengths and needs. She even sends home games and other activities that will support families as they work with their children at home. She worked very hard to ensure that Oxford's Pre-Kindergarten program met the state’s highest standards and was awarded 5 stars through the Step Up to Quality process.”

Kim BischofRoxboro Elementary School
Kim Bischof, First Grade Teacher
“Kim is a creative teacher who makes learning fun for her students. She encourages her class to be driven by inquiry and allows the students to express themselves in multiple ways, whether through choice seating or collaborative assignments. She also goes beyond the classroom to share her passions. She is a member of the IB leadership team, the BLT, and represents Roxboro on the green initiative. Kim is a terrific teacher and a great colleague.”

Lunetta ClarkBoard of Education/Bus Depot/Millikin
Lunetta Clark, Confidential Administrative Assistant for Business Services
“Lunetta has always been a top performer. She demonstrates a professional and courteous demeanor working with staff and the community. She continuously supports the District’s Business and Operations staff with professionalism and commitment. She handles staff and customers daily managing requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, ordering and following up on business-related issues. Lunetta is the heartbeat within the Business and Operations Department.”
