Honor Societies Induct New Members

April 28, 2017 -- The National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) recently held Induction Ceremonies to welcome new members.

On April 13, the National Honor Society inducted 49 sophomores and juniors in a ceremony led by current officers, Soli Collins and Ben Schuster, Co-Presidents, Gavin Alcorn, Vice-President, Faith Morris, Public Relations, Callan Swaim-Fox, Treasurer and Anya Chew, Secretary.

Guidance Counselor Haethem Rasul is the NHS advisor.

The inductees will join the 81 current members.

Four NHS officers spoke about the four NHS pillars, Leadership, Character, Service and Scholarship.
Students with a 3.5 GPA or above are invited to apply for membership, demonstrating achievement in the area of scholarship. The application asks for evidence of student activities in the three other pillars character, service and leadership.

The group’s ongoing service project is the NHS Tutoring Lab that is staffed by NHS volunteers. It is open to all Heights High students after school, four days a week in the library.

The Keynote Speaker at the Induction Ceremony was Chief Justice Solomon Oliver, Jr., U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.

National Technical Honor Society

On April 17, the National Technical Honor Society inducted 11 juniors and seniors into the organization in a ceremony led by current NTHS members Taylor Bush (Pharmacy), Tahje Turner (Criminal Justice), Monique Carstarphen, Destiny Chambers, Nia Davis and Laura Harris-Odenbrett (Clinical Health Careers). Pharmacy teacher Anna Kiss is the NTHS Advisor.

Students in a Career and Technic Education program with a 3.0 GPA or above qualify for membership in the organization.

Inductees embody the seven NTHS attributes: leadership, scholarship, skills, honesty, citizenship, service and responsibility.
