June 23, 2017 -- The CH-UH City School District recently completed the second year of its five-year Strategic Plan. Staff throughout the District worked diligently to accomplish a number of objectives and action steps within each of the five goals.
The accomplishments below are listed according to each Goal / Objective / Strategy / Action Step. Each goal is aligned with the overall District mission and vision, as established with the adoption of the Strategic Plan in 2015.

Strategic Plan Goal 1
Student Outcomes - Expectations, Proficiency and Mastery: Every student graduates ready to pursue college and career.
- Graduation - 351 students received their diplomas at the Commencement ceremony on May 26, 2017. (1.1.A.1.)
- The high school staff and the Educational Services department worked to maximize the number of students earning their diploma.
- The District expects to see our graduation rate continue to rise when the newest state report card comes out in the fall.
- Exploring College Readiness Institute (ECRI) Program (1.1.B.1.)
- Implemented to support 9th grade students.
- Includes team teaching and AVID training.
- Mobile Health Units at Boulevard and Oxford, Telehealth Pilot at HHS (1.1.C.4.)
- HHS piloted the Cleveland Clinic’s Telehealth program, which provides students with video chat access to physicians.
- The Cleveland Clinic Mobile Health Unit continued to provide monthly access at Boulevard and Oxford, the second year of the program.
- Adoption of District-Wide Science Curriculum (1.1.D.2.)
- Science teachers piloted a number of curriculum offerings this year, and the District formally adopted a consistent program this spring based on staff recommendations.
- Creation of Five-Year Career and Technical Education Plan (1.2.A.6.)
- The CTE Task Force created a five-year plan for the program.
Strategic Plan Goal 2
Educational Approach - Equity, Empowerment and Opportunities: Excellent education is provided to each student in every District school and classroom.
- Five-Year Equity Plan (2.2.A.1.)
- The new Equity Team created a five-year plan for the District, including a rubric to measure success.
- Equity Training (2.2.A.2.)
- The Equity Team provided regular training and PD sessions for staff to discuss diversity and cultural competency.
- Equity Board Policy (2.3.A.1.)
- The Board passed an official equity policy last August, the first of its kind in Northeast Ohio.
- Preschool Expansion at Oxford (2.6.A.1.)
- The new preschool program opened at Oxford this fall
- Gearity and Noble received 5-star ratings for their preschool programs.
- Summer Academic Programs (2.5.B.1.)
- Educational Services is providing an array of academic summer offerings to help students.
Strategic Plan Goal 3
Parent and Community Engagement, Partnerships and Communication: Parent and community partners are welcomed and fully engaged in supporting and enhancing student learning.
- Parent Leadership Training Day (3.1.A.3.)
- The District hosted parent leaders from each school on June 3, 2017.
- Ohio PTA was on hand to provide training and guidance.
- State of the Schools Address Held at the CH Community Center (3.1.B.1.)
- The District took the event to our community partners in the spirit of collaboration.
- Creation of Heights Schools Foundation (3.2.B.4.)
- First year of a transition from the Alumni Foundation.
- Opportunity grants were provided for each school.
- The new Foundation is planning to support a new spirit wear program in conjunction with CTE and Special Education at Heights High.
- Customer Service Professional Development (3.3.A.2.)
- Communications Department provided multiple training sessions for District staff.
- The District hosted the Cleveland Clinic’s Office of Patient Experience trainers for a full day session with all district administrative assistants in February 2017.
- Migration to Google and Google Classroom (3.3.A.3.)
- The migration to Gmail and G Suite for Education further encouraged teachers to use Google Classroom to engage with students and parents.
Strategic Plan Goal 4
Valued Professionals and a Culture of Excellence: The District attracts and retains caring and highly qualified staff with diverse experiences and backgrounds who work collaboratively.
- Professional Development programming for staff (4.3.A.1.)
- HR and Educational Services collaborated to revamp professional development offerings for staff.
- The District hosted our first-ever conference-style PD day in February with more than 50 different sessions for staff to choose from.
- Exit Interview Protocol (4.3.B.1.)
- HR created an exit interview process for classified and certified staff, including a checklist for departing staff and an online exit survey.
- Implementation of new Sungard System (4.3.C.1.)
- HR and Finance staff have been training on the new software with plans to implement it in the coming year.
- Wellness Committee Grant (4.4.A.1.)
- The Wellness Committee received a $25,000 grant from Medical Mutual to implement district-wide programs to promote healthy living.
- Year 2 of the Employee Code of Conduct (4.1.A.1.)
- Continued focus on implementing the Employee Code of Conduct (ECOC) and holding District staff to consistent high standards.
Strategic Plan Goal 5
Operational Resources – Finances, Technology and Facilities: The District has the necessary finances and infrastructure to provide an outstanding 21st century education and keeps the community well-informed about how resources are being used.
- 5-Year Permanent Improvement Plan (5.1.A.1.)
- The plan provides regular maintenance to our buildings to keep them safe and educationally efficient.
- Near completion of Heights High School renovation project (5.1.B.1.)
- The District is weeks away from the completion of the renovation project at Heights High.
- Green Apple and Energy Reduction Opportunities (5.2.A.1.)
- The District's new Energy Coach has been working with staff across the district to identify and promote energy-saving opportunities.
- The efforts are dually focused on sustainability and cost savings.
- PAFR (5.4.A.1.)
- The District published the new 8-page Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) in April.
- The District plans to publish the report annually alongside the normal Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
- Google! (5.5.A.)
- The District migrated to a fully Google technology platform in May, including a switch to Gmail from Microsoft Outlook.
- This wasn’t a specific action step, but it was a new measure the District decided to take to increase collaboration among staff and save the district money.
