Marketing/Business Students Volunteer
Nov. 14, 2017 -- Heights High students in the Business Technology and Marketing Management Courses and the DECA Club volunteered at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank on November 3.
 
The 14 seniors prepared bagged lunches for grade school aged students and the 16 juniors sorted and weighed food in the warehouse. 

The DECA club is part of an international organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Marketing Management teacher Sarah Parker is the DECA Advisor. “The students enthusiastically took ownership of this activity,” said Ms. Parker. “They worked well as a team, helping each other where needed. They even finished the work ahead of schedule!”

Joining the students was Tania Thomas, AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy Ambassador. also volunteered alongside the DECA members.  

When the work was finished, Ms. Thomas talked to the students about the importance of giving back to the community. Ms. Thomas also reminded the students that they need to represent their place of business, school, team, etc. the best way possible.

“When you do a great job, others will remember you AND your organization in a positive way, she said.

Dr. Shirley Davis is the Business Technology teacher and accompanied the students.

AT&T is the DECA Club’s partner and provides funding for activities.

The DECA students are now sponsoring a food drive at the school, inspired by their work at the Food Bank.
