Families, alumni and community members are invited to celebrate Tiger Nation, the new high school and connect with friends old and new.
For students, the festivities begin the week before Homecoming weekend.
Spirit Week, October 2-6: Student council organizes spirit week activities. Each day of the weeh has a theme:
- Monday - Denim Day
- Tuesday - PINK OUT for breast cancer awareness - donuts for students who wear pink.
- Wednesday - College Gear Day - wear your favorite college gear
- Thursday - Throwback Thursday - each class will wear gear from a different decade
- Friday - Tiger Nation Day
Friday, October 6
The Student Pep Rally, 2:10-2:56 p.m. This event will be held in the Heights High Stadium to celebrate Tiger Nation and recognize all fall season athletes, a class dance-off with a local celebrity DJ and a presentation by Under Armour products to Heights football player Tyreke Smith. The school will follow the Tuesday bell schedule. Rain locations: Competition Gym.
The New Community Homecoming Parade, will begin at 5:15 p.m. from Fairfax School and travel north on Lee Road to the corner of Tullamore. Community and school groups will participate and the Fabulous Heights High Marching Band will lead the parade. Contact Martha Pugsley for information about participating in the parade.
Lee Road Activity: All are welcome at the Parade Watch Party, 5:00 p.m. on the public green space at Meadowbrook/Lee Rd./Tullamore with games, HHS class meet-ups and community fun. Several Lee Road restaurants and merchants will offer day and evening specials .
The Heights High Tiger football game, 7:00 p.m. where Heights will face off against the Bedford Bearcats for the homecoming football game in the home stadium at the corner of Cedar and Lee. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. Tickets sold until the middle of the third quarter. Wear your black and gold. The halftime presentation will include the Homecoming court and the marching band.
Saturday, October 7
Boys & girls varsity cross country meet, Andrews Osborne Invitational, 8:00 a.m., 38588 Mentor Ave, Willoughby.
Boys varsity soccer vs Brush, senior night event where all seniors are honored on the field at half-time, 3:00 p.m., 1015 Quarry Dr, Denison Park, Heights High Soccer Stadium.
Heights High Open House, 10:00 a.m. - noon, self-guided tours. Enter through the east facing entrance, near the baseball field. Maps provided and friendly volunteers will be stationed throughout the building. Stop into Lee Road meetups with friends and enjoy specials at participating merchants across town.
The student dance is sponsored by the Student Council and will take place in the cafeteria with a DJ and a Karaoke Contest in the Mini Auditorium, 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. The evening’s theme is A Night to Treasure. Tickets are $20 per person, no discount for couples. Seniors may bring a guest. Tickets sold Monday, October 2 - Thursday, October 5, 3:10 - 4:15 p.m.and during lunch periods and after school in the cafeteria.
Tickets will not be sold at the door. School ID and ticket required for admission. There will be no admission after 8:30 p.m. Completed guest forms required to purchase a guest ticket,also available in the 12th grade office and in the counseling office.
Sunday, October 8
Happy 5K, 10K & 1 Mile Fun Run, begins at 8:00 a.m., sponsored by the City of Cleveland Heights and its merchants. This event is a celebration of all things good in our community. This race is for all ages and abilities with a chip-timed race for competitive runners. Costumes, strollers and dogs are welcome! A post-race block party follows the event. The community portion of this year’s homecoming celebration was planned by The Heights Schools Foundation, the City of Cleveland Heights, the Cleveland Heights Police Department, the CH-UH School District, and non-profit partners FutureHeights and the Cedar Lee Special Improvement District.
“We are inviting everyone to help us celebrate our schools, students, alumni and community,” said Julianna Johnston Senturia (’87), Heights Schools Foundation executive director. “We are so happy to include everyone in this celebration of the new high school and Tiger Nation.
“We invite alumni from all classes to ‘Return to our Alumni Roots- ROAR’ and have an engaging weekend in our hometown.”
