Dec. 8, 2017 -- The Students Against Destructive Decisions club (SADD) volunteered at the Cleveland Food Bank on December 1. The 12 students sorted food for distribution and disassembled cardboard boxes.

School Social Worker Caryl Yoo is the club’s advisor.

“Our goal was to show students how much organizational effort, money, materials, and volunteer hours it takes to provide food to Cleveland families in need."

SADD is a National organization with a chapter at Heights High.

“We focus on creating a positive school culture, encouraging students to make healthy choices and to be school leaders,” said Ms. Yoo.

“The group worked so hard and had a smile on their face the whole time,” continued Ms. Yoo. “On the way home, they wanted to know when we could do it again!

One of the goals for this trip was to help students grow further in humility, compassion and to have a charitable heart.”

Earlier this school year SADD helped lead activities for Suicide Prevention and Education Week and Bullying Prevention Week and created a float that featured a wrecked car and hosted a marching contingent in the Homecoming Parade.

This spring the group will again attend the annual We Are the Majority Youth Rally in downtown Cleveland to remind adults that the majority of teens make healthy choices and promote a positive school climate. This event includes leadership activities and a dynamic speaker.

They will also attend the Cycle Breaker Leadership Conference and partner with the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center with the Girls on the Move event.

The SADD club meets after school on Wednesdays in room 114. For more information contact Caryl Yoo.
