Heights High Course Selection Process - 2019-20

Jan. 11, 2019 -- The Heights High course selection/scheduling process for next school year begins in January. The Guidance Department will mail information about the course selection/scheduling process and timeline to families the week of January 14. 

The guidance counselors will meet with students entering grades 9-12 in groups and individually and also with parents to help guide the process.

Below is the course selection/scheduling timeline:

Jan. 23, 24, 30, 31; Feb. 6 & 7: Counselors will visit the English classrooms and present information about the course selection process. Students will receive a course selection form in this meeting. The student and parent will complete the form and the student will return the form to their English teacher. 

The Program Planning Guide is a good resource for families; it includes course descriptions, course sequencing and graduation requirements. The updated 2019-2020 will be available at the Program Planning link the week of January 14. There will be minor changes in the updated version.

January 29: Incoming 9th graders & rising 10th graders, Course Selection/Scheduling Meeting for Parents/Families, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Auditorium
 
January 29: Rising 11th  & 12th graders, Course Selection/Scheduling Meeting for Parents/Families, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., Auditorium

Feb. 1-10: Teachers submit course recommendations for each student.

February 11-21: Counselors meet individually with students during English classes. The class will go to the Mini-Auditorium for this meeting.
 
February 12: College Credit Plus Night, 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. This meeting is for families and students who are interested in participating in the College Credit Plus Program next school year. This program allows students to take courses at a local college or university for both high school and college credit. There is no charge to the family for these courses. Students must qualify for the program. 

Feb. 25, 26, 27: Counselors will meet with Intervention Specialists to solidify course placements for IEP students. 

February 28: High School Counselors will visit the Middle School to finalize the course selection process for eighth graders.

Week of March 11:  Tentative course lists are mailed home. Requests for changes are due back to the counselors by March 20.

Mid-August: Student schedules are posted on Infinite Campus
