High School Students Register to Vote

Delta Sigma Theta members register student to vote

Oct. 4, 2018 -- Heights High and Options Alternative High School students and adult members of the Greater Cleveland Alumnae chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority hosted a voter registration drive at both schools on September 25, National Voter Registration Day.

The group registered 30 students.

The students who volunteered to help with the event are: Jae'la Johnson, Ryan Penson, Taylorr Thomas, Davon Beane', Nicholas Munford, and Jahmeer Wakeel.

Taylorr, Jae’la and Ryan are Delta Debs, participating in programs sponsored by the Delta Sigma Theta organization that guide young women into womanhood, facilitate cultural and social growth and provide scholarship funds for higher education. The Delta Debs participate in several program and public service activities leading up to the annual Delta Cotillion in February, 2019.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 and is is a public service sorority whose purpose is to provide assistance and support programs in local communities. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly black, college educated women with 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters world wide.

Delta alumnae Leslie Wilson (parent of two Heights High alums) and Options Alternative High School teacher April White organized the event with the help of Heights High teachers Erin Mims, Tandra Menefee and Shawn Washington, also Delta alumnae.
