CH-UH Students Win MLK Essay Contests

Jan. 30, 2018 -- Nearly 30 students from the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District were awarded top prizes at this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day essay contests at East View United Church of Christ and the City of Cleveland Heights.

Heights Middle School student Henry Herschman won second place at the East View United contest and received a $150 award. Bryce Betts won third and received a $50 award. This year's writing prompt was "What would Martin Luther King say about NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem?"

As part of the 20th Annual MLK Celebration, the City of Cleveland Heights sponsored essay, poetry and poster contests for Cleveland Heights students. This year’s topic was “How did Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. influence the world?” Students read their essays and poems and displayed and explained their posters during the celebration.
