Jan. 27, 2016 – Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon delivered the State of the Schools Address for the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District on Tuesday in front of a crowd of more than 100 community members, school educators and administrators.

Dr. Dixon outlined the District’s new Strategic Plan, which was officially implemented this fall. The Superintendent discussed each of the plan’s five goals, along with the District’s new mission and vision.

The new mission states “Our schools provide a challenging and engaging education to prepare all our students to become responsible citizens and succeed in college and career.”

Dr. Dixon also provided updates on initial progress made with implementing the plan, including mid-year accomplishments for each goals. District staff and administrators have been aligning their efforts to meet the objectives set forth in the Strategic Plan, which was created during an eight-month process last year using staff, student and community input.

Looking ahead to the 2016-17 school year, Dr. Dixon announced plans for a new pre-K program at Oxford Elementary, an Equal Opportunity Schools grant to increase the high school’s Advanced Placement enrollment, the expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and offerings and the implementation of the Green Apple Project, which will help the District conserve energy in its buildings.

The acclaimed Heights High Barbershoppers kicked off the night with a rousing performance for the crowd on hand. The student group included William Aiken, Graham Ball, Akash Bartlett, Orion Brock, Tedd Byers, Grant Heineman, Andrew Pecoraro, Michael Garrett Jr., Cody Radivoyevitch, Gerald Shazor, Garrett Vandall and Malcolm White.

The PTA Council hosted the State of Schools Address. PTA Council President Katura Simmons provided the opening remarks and introduced the night’s featured speaker, Dr. Dixon.
