Feb. 13, 2017 -- Three CH-UH fifth graders were recognized at the February 7 Board of Education meeting for penning winning essays in a local MLK Jr. essay contest. Each read a portion of their essay aloud at the meeting.

In the annual contest held by the East View United Church of Christ, Ruby Tugeau of Roxboro Elementary won a $125 scholarship for placing first in the fourth- to sixth-grade division, Sophia Muller of Fairfax Elementary won $75 for placing second, and Julianna Madlock of Fairfax won $25 for placing third.

This year, students wrote on the following theme: "What advice would Martin Luther King give President-elect Donald Trump on making the United States truly united?"
