Heights Sophomore Invited to Join National Society of High School Scholars
Sarai Tyus
July 3, 2018 -- Rising sophomore Sarai N Tyus has been selected to become a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, an organization that recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.

Sarai was one of the first students in the CH-UH City School District to take advantage of the College Credit Plus program while still in middle school. At 12 years old, Sarai was accepted into Cuyahoga Community College and began her college courses at 13. Sarai will graduate from Tri-C with her first degree in 2019. Her goal is to one day attend Harvard Law School.

"In sixth grade, Sarai began to tell us that she wanted to go directly to college from middle school," said her mother, Shelley Tyus.

According to Sarai's parents, her favorite hobbies are reading (four books a month) and drawing. She volunteers with Youth Challenge working with physically disabled children, and she has served the homeless at shelters in downtown Cleveland. She also serves in church to help the community.

The NSHSS was formed in 2002 to recognize academic excellence at the high school level and helps advance the goals of high-achieving millennials through unique learning experiences, scholarships, internships and more. Currently there are more than one million members in 160 countries.

"On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Sarai has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence," said society co-founder Claes Nobel.
