Heights Senior Track Athletes Receive Diplomas at Regional Meet
Shakorie Davis, Garret White, Dayvione Briggs and Rahmon Davis-SmithJune 2, 2017 -- The OHSAA Regional Track & Field finals at Austintown Fitch last Friday were memorable for four Heights High student-athletes for more than what they accomplished on the track.

Seniors Shakorie Davis, Garret White, Dayvione Briggs, and Rahmon Davis-Smith all competed for a chance to run in the state meet this weekend. Meet officials also held a special ceremony to present them each with their diplomas on the medal stand--cap and gown and all--because they had to miss the Heights High graduation ceremony scheduled for that night.

Despite receiving their diplomas, the high school athletic careers are not over for Briggs, Davis, and Davis-Smith. The three all qualified to compete in the state meet beginning this afternoon at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Briggs will compete in the girls 100-meter hurdles today at 5:15 p.m. She placed fourth at the regional meet in a time of 14.96 to qualify for state. If she advances past the prelims, the finals for the event is scheduled for Saturday, June 3, at 4:30 p.m.

Davis and Davis-Smith are part of the boys 4x100-meter relay team that placed second at the regional meet in a time of  42.54 to qualify for the state meet. The event prelims are scheduled for 6:10 p.m. today with the finals on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Juniors Jakeith James and Zaire Webb are also part of the 4x100-meter team.

White competed in the 110-meter hurdles at the regional meet but did not advance to the state meet.
