Board Work Session Recap
Monticello and Roxboro middle schoolsJuly 26, 2017 -- The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education met for its monthly work session on Tuesday. The Board reviewed and approved the design documents for the middle school renovations at the meeting.

The Board voted unanimously to approve the design documents after hearing a presentation from Moody Nolan and Turner Construction.

The renovations will ensure that the buildings operate more efficiently with updates to the HVAC, electrical systems and technology. Each classroom will receive new air conditioning, flooring, ceilings and paint in order to enhance the learning environment for students.

The project team outlined the schedule for the Board:
December 2017 - Approve GMP (guaranteed maximum price)
March 2018 - Start construction at Monticello and Roxboro
June 2019 - Construction completed
August 2019 - Monticello and Roxboro reopen for classes

Director of Business Services and Operations George Petkac then discussed the District's Permanent Improvement budget and five-year plan with the Board. Mr. Petkac and the middle school renovation team are discussing ways in which the Permanent Improvement funds can be used to address critical needs at the middle schools that are out of the current scope of renovations. This includes masonry tuckpointing, roof repair, site work, and classroom furniture.

Prior to the work session on the middle school project, the Board conducted training to learn its new BoardDocs program, which is being implemented to help meetings run more efficiently and increase transparency for public access to agendas and meeting minutes.

The Board of Education will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, August 1, at 7:00 p.m. in University Heights.
