Dear Heights Middle School Parents,

We hope this letter finds you and your families enjoying summer. Recently, you received a letter detailing our end-of-the-year activities and important summer dates. This message addresses the International Baccalaureate Program at Heights Middle School, Tiger Expectations, our school’s cell phone policy and the schedule for grade level orientations.

Monticello Authorized as an IB School

We are thrilled to announce that Monticello Middle School has been named an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Monticello joins Roxboro Middle School in a diverse, global community of schools offering the program.

“With both schools being authorized and also being in the same building, it ensures that our academic offerings will be equitable. Every middle school student in CH-UH will now have the Middle Years Programme Experience,” said CH-UH Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon.

This authorization will give teachers from both schools the opportunity to plan innovative and relevant units of study. Our educators will teach students the IB program’s ten approaches to learning skills to help them become independent learners.

The IB program seeks to educate students so they become thoughtful, caring, and prepared citizens of the world upon graduation. Read more about the role of IB in our District.

Tiger Expectations

We look forward to partnering with our students, families and community members to create a safe, respectful and responsible school environment, in large part through implementation of the Tiger Expectations (ROARS). These expectations will be posted throughout Heights Middle School and reviewed throughout the school year.

Cell Phone Policy

Although we recognize that cell phones play a large part in the social lives of our students, our focus during the school day must be on learning, with as few distractions as possible. With this understanding, Heights Middle School will limit students’ access to their cell phones to before and after school. During the instructional day or any school-sponsored activity, cell phones will be stored in a student’s locker. As the school year approaches, we will share more information regarding student access to cell phones.
