PHOTOS: Students Learn Safety Skills With Bike Fleet
Nov. 8, 2017 (Cleveland.com) -- The latest grant installment in the Safe Routes to School program has provided a "Giant" opportunity for Cleveland Heights-University Heights students.

It arrived this summer in a silver cargo trailer carrying 24 Giant-brand bicycles, a tire compressor and many helmets, all of which have been in use in physical education classes at Canterbury and Fairfax elementary schools.

They were deployed first at Canterbury in phys. ed. teacher Julie Lustic's third, fourth and fifth-grade classes, as well as in the annual "All Geared Up" family bike event at the start of October.

From there, the "Bike Fleet" moved over to Fairfax, where P.E. teacher Alice Stratton has been making the most of the optimal fall weather. That was the case on Oct. 25 when her classes pedaled around the campus working on hand signals and other bicycle safety skills, an obstacle course and even proper bike-locking strategies.
