Heights’ Ella Damaser Wins Lake Erie League, Advances to Regionals

Oct. 25, 2017 -- Heights High junior Ella Damaser won the Lake Erie League girls cross country individual championship on Oct. 14, leading the Tigers to their third straight conference title.

Damaser finished the Forest Hills Park course in 20:54, topping her time from last year when she finished second at the league meet.

Junior Georgie Jolivette was second behind Damaser, followed by freshman Marissa Veccia in third. Sophomore Nataya Truitt was not far behind in fifth, and freshman Daniella Kirabo-Mafigiri was seventh to round out Heights’ scoring five.

Damaser followed up her LEL performance with a fourth-place finish at the district meet in Madison to advance to regionals. Damaser will race on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Boardman High School in Youngstown. As a team, the Tigers finished eighth at districts.

On the boys side, the Tigers finished second at the LEL Championships, snapping a streak of five straight years winning the conference title. Junior Daniel Lewis led Heights with a third-place finish, followed by sophomore Donavin Veccia in fifth and junior Claude Lewis in seventh. The Heights boys finished 11th at the district meet.
