AFS-USA (formerly the American Field Service) is a nonprofit organization that promotes intercultural learning. AFS works for a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership.

The American Field Service was a volunteer ambulance driver corps in WWI and WWII. After the wars, the former ambulance drivers started AFS to prevent future conflicts and promote understanding among nations.

For more than 60 years, Heights High has hosted and sent AFS foreign exchange students.
