Cosmetology Students Volunteer at Cancer Event
Cosmetology studentsNov. 7, 2018 -- Fifteen Heights High Cosmetology students volunteered at the October 5th Pink and Beyond Cancer Prevention and Education Forum at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center.

Junior Cosmetology student Déjà Shelton attended the event and wrote this story:

The sixth annual Pink and Beyond Prevention event included more than 400 cancer survivors and supporters of the cause. The purpose of the sixth annual event was to support breast cancer survivors, people in recovery and to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Cosmetology students offered hand massages to the guests. Before we arrived, I was nervous because I thought it was going to be sad and awkward giving people hand massages. But when we arrived, my whole perspective changed.

We were at a table where guests could sit down and get a hand massage. What I liked best was meeting and talking to the cancer survivors and the women who are recovering. I met Debra and Jessica who are cancer survivors and Linda who is still having chemo treatments. They told me what it is like to be in treatment and what it is like to be recovered.

I admire these women for their positive energy and how I could talk to them about anything.

And, I am glad that the cosmetology students could show that we support the women who are in treatment and who are survivors. I’m looking forward to going to the event next year.
