Marketing Students Visit Auto Show to Learn from the Pros
Marketing students in a new car at the auto showMarch 13, 2019 -- The Heights High Marketing Class/DECA Program attended the 2019 Auto Show High School Career Day February 25. The students attended the show to learn about the auto industries' marketing techniques.

The budding marketing professionals saw several marketing tools in action at the show: interactive displays, offers of promotional printed materials and small gift items, representatives available to inform and answer customer's questions and the opportunity to test drive a car. They also saw auto-related companies, including insurance firms who were interacting with the auto show visitors.

Special attractions that interested many students included the Optimus Prime Truck featured in the 2017 movie, “Transformers: The Last Knight,” and the classic car section of the show.

A few of the students talked about their favorite cars:  The new Jeep (Thai Griffin), the Mercedes G Wagon, (Javaya Perry), the Infiniti truck, (Ronnelle Drakeford) the Bentley truck, (Cameron Middleton) the Toyota Corolla, (Ronisha Wallace) and the Cadillac Escalade, (James Weaver).

AT&T has been a strong supporter of the Marketing Program at Heights High, funding field trips, workshops and providing adult mentors for the students. Ms. Tania Thomas, AT & T’s Aspire Mentoring Academy Ambassador to the Cleveland Heights DECA chapter, joined the students at the Auto Show.

“Ms. Thomas and other AT & T employees have given us the opportunities to participate in workshops and events that help us set goals for our future,”  said junior De’Leah Gray. “Our DECA chapter is so grateful to have mentors who take the time to share their real-world stories and advice with us.”

Marketing Program teacher Sarah Parker also appreciated the partnership. “I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of AT &T, especially Ms. Thomas,” said Ms. Parker. “The students have learned valuable workforce readiness skills in the workshops, attended business etiquette themed luncheons and been included in other engaging activities sponsored by AT & T.”

The contribution also helps remove barriers to students’ participation in DECA’s leadership and career-focused conferences and competitions.
