Jan. 10, 2018 -- Three new members of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District Board of Education were sworn in, while the Board also elected its new leaders during its annual organizational meeting on Tuesday in University Heights.

Newly-elected Board members Dan Heintz, Malia Lewis and Jodi Sourini each took the oath of office, which was administered by District Treasurer Scott Gainer. A number of local city officials were on hand for the ceremony, including Cleveland Heights Mayor Carol Roe and University Heights Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan.

Cleveland Heights was also represented by Vice Mayor Melissa Yasinow, Councilperson Mary Dunbar and Councilperson Michael Ungar. Vice Mayor Susan Pardee attended for University Heights.

After the swearing in ceremony, the Board elected its President, Vice President and Treasurer Pro Tem for 2018. Returning member Jim Posch was chosen as President, while newcomer Jodi Sourini was elected Vice President.

Returning member Beverly Wright was chosen as Treasurer Pro Tem, which means she would fill in for Scott Gainer if he were absent at a Board meeting. All three officers were unanimously elected.

The Board held its regular monthly meeting following the organizational meeting. The Board will meet again on Jan. 23 for its monthly work session.
