Heights High’s Tyreke Smith Commits to Ohio State
Heights High's Tyreke Smith
Jan. 9, 2018 -- Heights High senior standout Tyreke Smith committed to play football at Ohio State during the Under Armour All-American game last Thursday in Orlando. Smith was one of the most highly-recruited players in the country and chose the Buckeyes over Penn State and a host of other top collegiate programs.

Smith, a 6-4 260-pound defensive end, finished his senior year with 11 sacks, 23 tackles for loss, 22 QB pressures, six passes batted down and 52 solo tackles. He only started playing football as a junior at Heights High. Smith previously just played basketball and still continues to play on the Heights varsity squad.

On the gridiron this past fall, Smith was named named All-Ohio Division I co-Defensive Player of the Year and was selected as the Cleveland.com Defensive Player of the Year for 2017.

Smith will have a familiar face in Columbus this season. Former Heights High teammate Jaylen Harris (‘17) recently completed his freshman season with the Buckeyes. Harris saw action in three games and made two catches for 27 yards on the year.

Smith is not the only Tiger senior to commit to play Division I football next fall. Last month, Kylen McCracken signed with Ohio University, while LeMaro Smith Jr. signed with the University of Buffalo. Zaire Webb recently committed to play football at Georgetown University.
