Principal: Erica Wigton
We are off to a terrific start to the 2013-2014 school year! It is evident that the children are ready to learn and immerse themselves into all of the wonderful opportunities that Canterbury Elementary has to offer. Canterbury earned candidacy last spring to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) School. Over the summer, teachers worked collaboratively on writing the IB curriculum. The IB approach focuses on students learning through inquiry and becoming globally minded citizens.
Each day, our world class students strive to focus on our mission statement of being “lifelong learners who express belief in ourselves and others through our actions, academics and the arts.” Our teachers work on providing experiences that help students express their ideas using an art emphasis. Every Friday, students participate in a creative arts block where teachers work on connecting academic content through PE and music. I urge you to attend our monthly Community Concert Series. Each month families, students and residents are invited to attend a concert at Canterbury featuring different types of music. The concerts start at 6:30 p.m. I look forwarding to seeing many families take advantage of this wonderful event.
Lastly, Canterbury teachers are working diligently to prepare lessons that engage and meet the individual students’ needs. Our teachers meet often to discuss student data and the best research based teaching strategies. Canterbury has a wonderful staff collaboratively striving to help all students succeed.
