The First Grade Tigers have been very busy over the past several weeks.  They have been engaged in numerous activities that have enhanced our standards-based instruction in meaningful ways.

During ELA, the children have been implementing the use of the “Story Grammar Marker”.  Not only are the children using this tool when retelling stories that they have read, but they have also begun using the “Story Grammar Marker” in writing their own fictional stories.

Communities and families have been a focus in Social Studies.  The children had the opportunity to create a family tree at home with their families.  The trees were colorful and creative!  It was a fun and relevant activity for all.

In Math, our first graders are adding their way to earning a pizza party.  This incentive has motivated the children to learn their addition facts and to recall the facts fluently.

Senses, Plants, and Animals…oh my!  The children have been enjoying the study of these Life Science topics.  In early November, all three classes worked together to observe, measure, and discover new facts about pumpkins.  We look forward to discussing and practicing the Scientific Method, in preparation for May’s Science Fair, in the coming weeks.

We wish everyone a safe and joyful holiday season!
