The Vocal Music Department is part of the Mosaic School and is open to students from all the small schools. Some performing groups are offered as part of the curriculum (for credit) and others are extra curricular.

The Vocal Music Department hosts a full concerts schedule, with performances in
the Heights High Auditorium. Many groups also perform at numerous community venues.

Music Courses                                                                                                 

Men’s and Women’s Chorus:
Students in this non-audition group learn to read music, sharpen oral skills, listen                 
to music, identify intervals in music, shape vowels, and practice breath support.

Heights Singers:
A singing and dancing audition is required for Singers and is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. The group performs a variety of genres from classical to Broadway.

A Cappella Choir:
A singing audition is required, the group is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Students perform a variety of genres of music.

Extracurricular

Heights Honors Ensemble:
This group is open to members of the Heights Singers or the A Cappella Choir. Audition required.

Boys and Girls Barbershoppers:
this energetic group who works with adult vocalists to keep barbershop music alive in the Cleveland area.

The Annual Fall Musical

The Vocal Music Director leads an annual musical and invites all students to audition for parts. Instrumental Music students play in the accompanying orchestra. Middle and elementary students participate in chorus roles. Past productions have included The King and I, West Side Story and Beauty and the Beast.

Spring Tour

The Heights Singers and the A Cappella Choir travel each spring - during or near spring break. This trip includes performances, instruction workshops and a service project. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.0 to travel on this fun but demanding singing trip.

The Vocal Arts Parents Organization (VAPO) supports the Vocal Music Program.

The Gospel Choir

The Gospel Choir is open to all students who enjoy singing gospel music.
The group meets Thursdays after school and performs many types of gospel music. Students elect officers who help the directors. Students
perform at three evening school performances, in the community at various locations, and travel for an annual tour. An active Gospel
Choir parent’s organization supports the choir.
