Fairfax Elementary

Principal: Michael Wasser

Dear Fairfax Families:

I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer with their families.  It is now time to open our doors and welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year.  It will be an exciting experience for all.

This school year will see new faces at Fairfax.  We welcome to our staff Traci Adeen, Lauren Fennimore, Jason Young, Michelle Chen-Kieger, Barbara Hills, and Phyllis Albert.  They will be a great addition to Fairfax.

Academic changes will see students in performance groupings and taught at their instructional levels.  Some students who are below grade level will be in small learning groups supported by English Language Arts professionals.

We will implement Mandarin Chinese into our curriculum.  Every student in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to participate in this program.  It is an honor to offer this world language in our school.  This new experience for our students, staff, and community promises to be both enjoyable and exciting.

Throughout the CH-UH District, we will implement a new motto and student expectation plan entitled "Tiger Proud & Bully Free," using a positive behavior approach as the core.  We want our students to feel safe, prepared, and ready to accomplish both their behavioral and academic goals.  Our district mascot is the tiger, and all CH-UH schools are united.  Our colors are black and gold and we are the "Fairfax Tigers."  When you receive your Tiger Proud & Bully Free handbook, please look through this handbook for more details. Your support is critical to its success.

The Fairfax staff wishes all our students a successful year as we climb from a 'continuous improvement' to an 'effective' school.  Remember, I have an open door policy.

Professionally yours,

Michael F. Wasser
