Miss Gareau’s ELA class has been working hard on their reading skills and for the past two weeks have centered their learning around a gingerbread man theme!  The students read various versions of the classic story the Gingerbread Man and compared and contrasted the characters and events in each of them.  During the unit, the class conducted a reader’s theater project on the story. Students took turns playing the different roles in the story.  The class made gingerbread man glyphs where they added details to their own gingerbread man based upon their unique qualities.  In addition, each student wrote their own gingerbread story and illustrated them!  As a culminating project, the class constructed a gingerbread village complete with candy houses, roads, a bank and school!  The village served as a springboard into a social studies unit on mapping!  To wrap up the unit, the class enjoyed eating gingerbread men and sipping hot cocoa!
