Monticello Middle
Principal: Brian Sharosky
We extend a warm welcome for the 2011-12 school year to you and your child on behalf of the entire staff of Monticello Middle School. For those of you with returning students, we say “Welcome back” and to those of you with new students, “Welcome to the family.” We are looking forward to another exciting year as we continue to model an exemplary middle school program while focusing on increasing student achievement.
This school year will again be filled with many opportunities for your child to grow academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Students will be assigned to grade level “teams”. As you know, the concept of “teams” is central to an exemplary middle school, and enables your child to be a part of a family inside the larger school environment. The “team” of grade-level teachers will work closely to monitor your child’s progress, intervene when necessary, celebrate successes, and keep you informed. The teachers on a team have a common conference period and are readily available to meet with you to tackle problems or provide feedback.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT is a key that opens the door to success in life. To this end, our expectation is that students will do their best in every class, every day. Homework will be assigned regularly and writing will be an integral part of the daily curriculum. We will work to minimize the time taken away from academic classes, and stress to students the need to be on time every day for every class. We will reward students for positive behaviors to make the climate at Monticello one of academic excellence. We have instituted positive reinforcement programs (Students of the Week & Month, Tiger Paws (replace Sharosky bucks this year), Honor Roll-Merit Roll breakfasts, Etc.) to recognize behavior that is conducive to the learning environment. We will routniely meet with all our students to review our expectations and their role in the discipline plan for the school. We will need strong parent support in this endeavor to make it clear to students that achievement is number one at school. When students know the strategies to being successful, are focused and committed to excellence, and are given support in school and in the home, they achieve. It is our intention at Monticello to work with every student to positively impact achievement and improve his or her ability to think critically.
Thank you to parents for their support of our after school tutoring/remediation program-Homework Opportunity Club! It meets every day from 3-3:30 pm. Students with grades below a "C" are required to attend for the class(es) that they do not have a "C" or better. For further information, please contact Monticello's guidance counselors.
