Roxboro Middle School Writers Shine at Power of the Pen Tournaments

Roxboro Middle School hosted a district Power of the Pen tournament, where 136 students from 14 schools competed in three rounds of timed creative writing. The Roxboro seventh grade team earned top honors at both the district and regional levels, with several students placing individually and two advancing to the state tournament.

Young Artists Shine at Creative Heights District Arts Show

Students, families, and teachers gathered at the Lee Road Library for the opening of the 2026 Creative Heights District Arts Show, where words of praise and sounds of delight filled the crowd as young artists celebrated having their work displayed and, in some cases, honored with awards.

CHHS Drama Club Presents "As You Like It" April 16-18

The Heights High School Drama Club will present the stage adaptation of William Shakespeare's "As You Like It" for their annual spring play on April 16, 17, and 18 at 7 p.m. and April 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the Main Auditorium of the high school. The play features seniors Abs Burkle, Violet Carter, Tulie Gosselin, Nora Lubbers, Carl Nicosia, Emma Preston, Kendall Thompson, and Clara Walker.

At the monthly regular Board of Education meeting on April 7, Heights High School sophomore Jesse Bowling delivered the Superintendent’s Student Cadre Report, and the Board and Superintendent Kirby recognized recent student achievements.

Registration is now open for the 2026 Reaching Heights Summer Music Camp. This annual music week has been transforming campers as musicians, team players, and risk takers since 2005.

Noble Students Run, Learn, and Lead After School

Noble Elementary’s growing Run Club brings dozens of students together each week to build fitness, confidence, and healthy habits through running and mentorship. Led by teacher Lynne Gaines, the program energizes both students and the surrounding community while preparing participants for the upcoming Tiger 5K.

Zapotechne Named Roxboro Elementary School Principal

Amanda Zapotechne has been with the CH-UH City School District for the last two years as the district’s Coordinator of Curriculum & Instruction. Prior to coming to CH-UH, Zapotechne served as the principal of Liberty Elementary in North Ridgeville, and as an assistant principal in Cleveland Metropolitan City Schools. 

Reading Buddies Create Culture of Learning and Care

Boulevard teacher Tameka Bradley says her “teacher heart” is happy as 4th and 5th graders partner with 2nd grade Reading Buddies, building confidence, fluency, and connections through shared reading. The program extends beyond literacy, giving students meaningful opportunities to support one another, develop social-emotional skills, and discover that “it’s better to read with someone than to read at them.”

As part of our continued PBIS and Social Emotional Learning efforts, CH-UH schools are providing routine expectation assemblies focused on safety and prevention, including gun safety awareness. Additional parent programming has been planned in collaboration with the district’s family and community partners.

Fiala Named Ohio School Social Worker of the Year

CH-UH school social worker Edie Fiala has been named the 2026 School Social Worker of the Year for the state of Ohio. Ms. Fiala currently serves Fairfax and Oxford elementary schools and as the District Homeless Liaison.

14 Heights High CTE Students Inducted into National Technical Honor Society

Fourteen Cleveland Heights High School students in the Heights Career Tech programs were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society on February 26. The NTHS is an educational non-profit that exists to honor, recognize and empower students and teachers in Career and Technical Education.
