At the monthly regular Board of Education meeting on June 3, the finance department received the Auditor of State Award with Distinction, the District’s new Chief Financial Officer was introduced, and the Heights Schools Foundation provided an update on the organization’s recent work.

Regular Meeting Overview
  • Heights Schools Foundation Executive Director Laura Loebl provided an update to the Board of Education on the foundation’s recent work, including student scholarships and classroom grants for educators.
  • The Board voted to approve a resolution appointing Angele Latham as the District’s next Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer. Latham begins work in CH-UH on July 1.
  • Superintendent Kirby shared updates on the past month’s work within the five goals of the District’s Strategic Plan.
  • The Board voted to approve a resolution in support of LGBTQ+ students, staff, and  families and marking June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
  • The Board voted to approve a resolution to recommend that the following language be added to the Ohio School Boards Association Legislative Platform in the Finance plank, Categorical parity section: “OSBA supports legislation that:  Provides increased and sustainable funding for special education to ensure districts can fully meet the needs of students with disabilities without diverting funds from general education programs.”
  • Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer Scott Gainer delivered his “3 Things” report, a monthly initiative to educate the community on school funding. The 3 Things for June are:
    • AOS Award with Distinction
    • AOS Financial Health Indicators
    • AOS USAS Manual Update
