Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist
Heights High School senior Elliott Egbert has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

The National Merit Scholarship Program, now in its 72nd year, is an annual academic competition for recognition and college scholarships. More than 1.2 million U.S. students entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in the fall of their junior year.

Egbert is one of about 16,000 semifinalists in the country, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school students.

"We are extremely proud of Elliott for this immense achievement. Becoming a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist is no easy feat,” said Superintendent Liz Kirby. “I know that he will continue to make Tiger Nation proud well beyond his time here at Heights."

Egbert has the opportunity to advance to the Finalist level and qualify for one of about 7,000 National Merit Scholarships worth a total of nearly $24 million. Finalists will be announced in February 2027.
